The School of Civil Engineering is a secondary teaching unit of Changchun Institute of Technology (CIT). The School has 4 majors: Civil Engineering (National First-class Undergraduate Major), Road and Bridge and River Crossing Engineering (Provincial First-class Undergraduate Major), Urban Underground Space Engineering, Intelligent Construction, etc. The School has a master program in the field of Architecture and Civil Engineering, and has been enrolling postgraduates since 2012. At present, there are more than 2000 undergraduate students.
The School has 75 faculty members, including 58 full-time teachers and 15 laboratory technicians. Professors account for 16% among the full-time teachers, with Vice Senior Titles 40%.
The School has 4 provincial scientific research platforms, giving full play to the advantages of Civil Engineering, and has formed distinctive features in many fields, such as prefabricated building technology, green building materials application technology, transportation and road engineering technology, intelligent construction technology, etc.
In the past 5 years, the School has been approved as 1 National First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Site and 2 Provincial First-class Major Construction Sites. The School has carried out research with large enterprises including China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), China Nuclear Energy and China Communications, has been approved 124 scientific research projects of all kinds at all levels, with scientific research funds over 25 million and won 8 provincial and above science and technology awards. 51 patents are authorized, including 10 invention patents. The School Published more than 200 academic papers, including more than 100 high-level papers such as SCI, EI retrieval, Chinese core, etc and 6 academic monographs.
The School has a civil engineering experiment teaching department and a mechanics experiment teaching department, with an area of 10060 ㎡and a total equipment value of more than 70 million yuan. It has established more than 30 off-campus practical teaching and industry-university-research cooperation bases with large state-owned construction enterprises, and 1 national and 3 provincial off-campus practical teaching bases and 1 provincial practical teaching demonstration center have been established.
In recent years, the School has been approved as “Construction Integration Technology Collaborative Innovation Center in Jilin Province——Prefabricated Construction Technology Innovation Center”.
Civil Engineering discipline was rated as the discipline with advantages and characteristics (Level A) in Jilin Province, and the mid-term assessment reached the top 30% of the discipline evaluation, and it was approved as the first provincial graduate workstation of CIT.
The School organizes students to carry out innovation and entrepreneurship practice activities and participate in various innovation and entrepreneurship competitions at all levels. In the past 5 years, students have won 104 awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including the China “Internet+” College Students’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the National College Students’ Structural Design Competition, and the Graduation Design Competition of Civil Engineering Major in Colleges and Universities in Jilin Province.
The employment rate of students in various majors has reached more than 95% over the years, and more than 70% of students have been employed in state-owned enterprises such as China Construction, China Communications, China Railway, etc.
The graduates of the School are mainly engaged in relevant professional work in large or medium state-owned enterprises, scientific research institutions and other institutions. Major employers in recent years mainly includes China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., China Railway Sixth Bureau, etc.
