Presently, the School of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering consists of the Department of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering, the Department of Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering, the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, and the Department of Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering; Water Conservancy Engineering Experiment Teaching Center, Municipal Environment Experiment Teaching Center, College Student Innovation Practice Center, BIM Teaching Department. Additionally，the School possesses Key Laboratory of Urban Sewage Treatment of Jilin Province and Water Engineering Safety and Disaster Prevention Engineering Laboratory of Jilin Province.
The School currently has 85 faculty members, including 10 Professors, 27 Associate Professors, 75 teachers with master’s degree or above (37 doctors, accounting for 43.5%), 2 provincial key discipline leaders and 5 academic leaders. In 2012, it began to enroll full-time postgraduate students in the field of Water Conservancy Engineering and Municipal Engineering. At present, there are more than 1760 registered students.
The Water Conservancy Engineering Discipline of the School was selected as a high-level discipline with advantageous characteristics in the 13th Five-Year Plan, the Engineering and Environmental Safety Discipline was selected as a new interdisciplinary discipline in the 13th Five-Year Plan, and the Environmental Science and Engineering discipline was listed as a key construction discipline at the university level. From 2011 to 2019, the Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering major was selected as the Implementation Major of the National “Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan”, the National Comprehensive Reform Pilot Major, and Characteristic High-level major of Jilin Province. Water Resources Major and Hydropower Engineering received accreditation of Engineering Education in 2018, and Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering Major received accreditation of Engineering Education held by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Development in 2019. Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering and Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering were selected as Provincial First-class Undergraduate Majors. In 2020, Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering was selected as a National First-class Undergraduate Major, and Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering was selected as a Provincial First-class Undergraduate Major.
The School has set up 15 production, learning and research bases. In 2009, it was approved as Water Engineering Safety and Disaster Prevention Engineering Laboratory of Jilin Province. In 2011, the Water Conservancy Engineering Experimental Teaching Center was selected as Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center among Colleges and Universities in Jilin Province. In 2012, the School was approved as Key Laboratory of Urban Sewage Treatment of Jilin Province.
In recent ten years, the School has undertaken 208 national, provincial, bureau and enterprise science and technology projects, receiving more than 35 million yuan of research funds, including 3 national major science and technology projects and 6 National Natural Science Foundation projects. The School published more than 300 papers, obtained 21 national authorized invention patents, 64 utility model patents and 15 software monographs, and won 18 provincial and ministerial level and above scientific and technological awards, including 1 second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award and 6 second and third prizes of Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Jilin Province.
The School has carried out scientific and technological innovation activities for college students and established a “extracurricular scientific and technological innovation and entrepreneurship base” for college students. From 2017 to 2021, students won 19 national awards and 26 provincial awards in the “Challenge Cup”, “Internet +” and other scientific and technological innovation activities. In the undergraduate mathematical modeling contest and other discipline competitions, it has won 7 national awards and 10 provincial awards.
Since its establishment, the average one-time employment rate of the School’s graduates in various undergraduate majors has exceeded 95%. The average admission rate for postgraduate programme is more than 15%. Most of them have been admitted to Wuhan University, Tianjin University, Tongji University, Dalian University of Technology, Harbin Institute of technology, Chongqing University, Hehai University and other national key universities.
The School has established a stable industry-university-research cooperation relationship with more than 10 large state-owned enterprises and institutions. At the same time, it has established a close academic exchange and cooperation with the University of Connecticut in the U.S and famous colleges and universities with related majors in China.
