School of Surveying and Mapping Engineering is one of the schools at CIT with the longest history. The School has 66 faculty members, including 8 professors, 23 associate professors and 3 senior engineers; 29 teachers with doctor’s degree and 21 teachers with master’s degree; 1 keynote professor in Jilin Province; 2 young and middle-aged backbone teachers in Jilin Province; 1 discipline leader of CIT; 1 master teacher in Jilin Province; and 1400 students.
The School has several departments including Geotechnical Engineering, Resources and Environmental Engineering, Surveying and Mapping Engineering, Gems, Geotechnical Engineering Experiment Teaching Center, Surveying and Mapping Engineering Experiment Teaching Center, Geology and Gems Testing Experiment Teaching Center, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center for College Students. Furthermore, 4 professional training bases such as Jilin Provincial Surveying and Mapping Engineering Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center, Geotechnical and Drilling Engineering Practice Base, Geological Exhibition Hall, and Professional Comprehensive Application Computer Room, and Jilin Oil Shale Drilling and Environmental Protection Engineering Laboratory. The experimental equipment of the school is worth about more than 30 million yuan, covering an area of 6035 square meters.
The School has 6 undergraduate majors: Resource Surveying Engineering, Geological Engineering, Surveying and Mapping Engineering, Gem Materials and Technology, Geology, and Geographic Information Science. Geological Engineering Major is the main major of the key discipline at CIT. In 2020, it was accredited by the Engineering Education Committee of the Ministry of Education, and it is also the main major registered by Geotechnical Engineer Examination. In 2014, it was approved by the Ministry of Education as the national “Excellent Engineer” Training Pilot Major; Surveying and Mapping Engineering was rated as the “Outstanding Engineer” Training Pilot Major in Jilin Province in 2015 and was accredited by the Engineering Education Committee of the Ministry of Education in 2018, which is a characteristic major in Jilin Province; Resource Surveying Engineering Major is the main major of geological prospecting and exploration, which is the key development discipline of CIT. In 2013, it was rated as the Characteristic Major in Jilin Province; Gem Materials and Technology Major is the earliest and the only undergraduate major among colleges and universities in Northeast China.
