Ode to the Willow

By He Zhizhang

Decked with jasper leaves, a tree so tall,

Ten thousand green ribbons hang down all.

Who has cut out these delicate leaves so fine?

The spring wind of February, a scissor divine.

Thanslated by Xu Yuanchong

Ode to the Willow was written by Tang Dynasty poet He Zhizhang. It depicts a willow as dressed in jasper, with its branches like green ribbons, crafted by the spring wind as a "divine scissor." The poem expresses praise for nature’s beauty and the vitality of spring.
