Yellow Crane Tower

The Yellow Crane Tower, located in Wuchang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, and adjacent to the Yangtze River, is a landmark building in Wuhan.  Founded in the second year of the Huangwu reign of the Three Kingdoms period (223 AD), it has undergone repeated renovations throughout history. The existing building is based on the Qing Dynasty "Tongzhi Tower" as the prototype design, rebuilt in 1985. The Yellow Crane Tower, along with Yueyang Tower in Hunan and Tengwang Pavilion in Jiangxi, has been known as the "Three Famous Towers in Jiangnan" since ancient times. It has the reputation of "peerless sight in the world", and is known as one of the "Three Famous Scenic Spots of Wuhan" along with Qingchuan Pavilion and Guqin Terrace.


The Yellow Crane Tower is famous worldwide for the poem "Yellow Crane Tower" written by the Tang Dynasty poet Cui Hao. It has always been regarded as the "masterpiece of Tang poetry with seven rhymes", and many people can recite it. Due to this poem, the Yellow Crane Tower has achieved its status as a cultural landmark of "cultural famous building".


The main building of the Yellow Crane Tower is a reinforced concrete frame imitation wood structure, the bottom side is 30 meters wide, the top side is 18 meters wide, and the height is 51.4 meters. The eaves are five stories, and the roof is covered with golden glazed tiles. It is supported by 72 columns, and the upper floor has 60 warped angles extending outwards. The exterior of the Yellow Crane Tower is surrounded by the cast copper yellow crane shape, the statue pagoda, archway, porch, pavilion and other buildings. The whole building is shaped like a yellow crane, spreading its wings to fly, hanging plaques on all sides under the eaves, and hanging three-character gold plaques of "Yellow Crane Tower" by calligraphers Shu Tong on the front.
