Jilin Changbai Mountain Ecological Culture Virtual Reality Simulation Engineering Research Center is a multi-disciplinary “Changbai Mountain Nature and Humanities” Theme Key Laboratory approved by the Department of Science and Technology of Jilin Province. The laboratory comprehensively utilizes the advantages of computer technology and application, scientific and technological innovation and management, architecture and civil engineering and other disciplines of Changchun Institute of Technology, in talents, technologies and research sites, etc., comprehensively integrates the historical and cultural resources and foundation of Changbai Mountain, effectively integrates the VR forces and technologies inside and outside the province, and focuses on the research of historical culture of Changbai Mountain, ecological culture of Changbai Mountain, VR technology reconstruction, intelligent information processing and other aspects.

It has undertaken 4 National Natural projects and 22 provincial or ministerial projects. It has published 37 papers. It possesses authorized 10 invention patents and 27 software copyrights. The total area of the laboratory is 583 square meters. It has 134 + X sets of VR R & D, experience and display equipment such as Optitrack motion capture system, handheld 3D scanner, panoramic shooting system, wireless space walking platform, 9D seat, and 4 sets of big data collection, analysis and storage equipment such as disk arrays. Facing the frontier of the artificial intelligence and virtual reality science and technology industry, the development needs of culture and tourism in Jilin Province, and the main battlefield of economic construction in Jilin Province, the laboratory aims to build the natural basic data and scientific research platform of Changbai Mountain. Recording the nature and humanities of Changbai Mountain through a large number of collection, collation, and systematic analysis of historical and scientific materials, it digs out the little-known historical and cultural stories, colorful ecological and cultural stories and hard scientific research stories; it takes the stories as the main line and uses the advanced virtual reality technology (VR) to generate the 3D virtual environment of Changbai Mountain through computer modeling and simulation, build an interactive 3D dynamic Changbai mountain scene that integrates the geographic, ecological, cultural, historical and other diversified information of Changbai Mountain, and comprehensively present the famous peaks and rivers of Changbai Mountain, the momentum of rivers and mountains, the specialty resources and the diversified culture; it updates and regularly releases the 3D “panorama” of nature and culture of Changbai Mountain at the real time. It innovates the research mode of traditional culture of Changbai Mountain, enriches the scientific research achievements of Changbai Mountain, lets the public immerse in it, travel around and enjoy Changbai Mountain, experience the beauty and magic of Changbai Mountain so as to better practice the important ecological civilization concept that “lucid water and green mountains are invaluable assets”, and promote the better development of the cultural industry and tourism in Jilin Province.
